Anti-IEBC protests in Kisumu turned nasty as NASA supporters turned on a popular supermarket. TUKO.co.ke has learnt that the NASA supporters broke into a supermarket and made away with property of unknown value. Officers were forced to use teargas and water cannons to disperse the crowd which had resorted to looting amid protests.
Nasa protesters on Friday left a trail of destruction in Kisumu after taking to the streets to push for reforms at the electoral commission.
The demonstrators broke into and looted Tumaini Supermarket and vandalized water pipes belonging to Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company (Kiwasco).
It marked another wave of protests by NASA supporters in the push to eject IEBC officials ahead of the October 26 repeat polls. At the start of Friday, October 6, most businesses in Kisumu remained closed over fears of violent protests.
Kisumu is one of Kenyan towns that face acute water shortage despite the fact that it is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world.
